The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the full schedule for the 2023 UKG Challenge Cup semifinals. Following tonight’s match that saw NJ/NY Gotham play to a 1-1 draw against the Orlando Pride, the North Carolina Courage have clinched the NWSL’s East Division and the third seed in the Challenge Cup semifinal.
The #2 Kansas City Current (4-1-1, 13 points) will host #3 Courage (3-1-2, 11 points) on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 p.m. CT from Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, As previously announced, #1 OL Reign will host #4 Racing Louisville at 9 p.m. CT. September 6 in Seattle’s Lumen Field. Both matches will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
Ticket packages that include the semifinal September 6 and the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup final September 9 will go on sale Thursday, August 10. Season Ticket Members will have the first opportunity to purchase their seats at 10 a.m. CT and will receive information on reserving those tickets via email. Public on-sale will begin at 12 p.m. CT. The Current clinched its second consecutive Central Division title August 5, shutting out Racing Louisville to finish the group stage of the 2023 UKG Challenge Cup. Forward Kristen Hamilton kicked off the match with an early goal before adding another to complete her brace in the last ten minutes of play. Minutes after providing the assist on Hamilton’s second goal, defender Hailie Mace dribbled through the Racing defense to score her first goal of the season, sending the Kansas City Current to the knockout round with a 3-0 victory.
This will be the third match between these sides this season, with each team securing a 1-0 win at home. The Courage and Current also faced each other in the 2022 Challenge Cup semifinal. In that match, then-North Carolina forward Debinha scored the opening goal while Hamilton secured the lone goal for Kansas City. Now, as teammates, the top two goal-scorers in NWSL Challenge Cup history join forces looking to advance to the final September 9.
