Kansas City Current Release “Below the Surface” Series Documenting 2022 NWSL Season Preparation

KANSAS CITY (Feb. 9, 2022) Kansas City Current fans get exclusive behind the scenes access to preseason training with the new docuseries, “Below the Surface,” featuring Current players and coaches. The first episode of the docuseries will air on Thursday, February 10 at 10 a.m. on the KC Current social media channels and website. The rest of the episodes will be released throughout the month of preseason training. Check out a preview of the series here.  

“Kansas City is our home, but we are so excited to train in Florida at IMG Academy,” said general manager Camille Levin. “This is an incredible, all-inclusive facility to train for the first time as a full team and build a strong foundation for the season ahead. The players are working hard every day to be their best, and I can’t wait for the fans to see that in Below the Surface!”  

Below the Surface” will follow the players as they prepare for the 2022 NWSL season. Working with filmmaker Matt Baker, the series will give fans an inside look at on and off-the-field preparation, including trainings, team meetings, fitness testing and team bonding. Players will discuss the process of getting back on the field and getting ready for the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup and regular season. Furthermore, it showcases ownership’s commitment to providing the best facilities, IMG Academy in Florida, for the KC Current as it kicks off its second season. 

The Kansas City Current will play its first match to open the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup Friday, March 18 at Racing Louisville FC. The club’s 2022 Challenge Cup Home Opener kicks off Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Park.   

About the Kansas City Current 

Founded in December 2020, the Kansas City Current is led by the ownership group of Angie Long, Chris Long and Brittany Matthews. The team competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and begins its second season with the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup kicking off at Racing Louisville on March 18. The Kansas City Current announced plans for the first stadium purpose-built for an NWSL team with expected completion in 2024.
