In honor of Black History Month, Kansas City Current has partnered with KC Black Owned, an organization founded to highlight and support Black-owned businesses in Kansas City.
This Black History Month, as part of KC Black Owned partnership with KC Current, Chelsey M. introduced KC Current players to three Black-owned businesses in Kansas City: Ruby Jean’s Kitchen & Juicery, Soirée Steak & Oyster House and Fannie’s West African Cuisine. In video features released on KC Current social media channels throughout the month of February, Chelsey and KC Current players get a taste of each restaurant, while learning more about the owners, their story and the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses in Kansas City.
“While KC Black Owned and KC Current may be new to the community, we are both striving to make a positive impact on the city we love,” Chelsey said.

Started by Chelsey in July 2020, the online directory of Black-owned businesses in Kansas City tops over 300 businesses. Spanning across 12 categories – from Health to Entertainment, Food to Fashion – website and social media users are quickly and easily connected to Black-owned businesses in Kansas City.
Through KC Black Owned’s “Locate. Support. Repeat.” mission, Chelsey’s organization has connected thousands of Kansas Citians with Black-owned businesses. To learn more about KC Black Owned or to browse Kansas City’s largest Black-owned business directory, click here.
