Kansas City Current midfielder Desiree Scott invited to Canada’s World Cup Preparation Camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup

Canada Soccer announced today its roster for a pre-tournament camp to be held beginning June 25 at the Gold Coast, Australia. Kansas City Current midfielder Desiree Scott was one of 25 players named to the camp roster by Canada National Team head coach Bev Priestman.

Scott is a veteran on the international stage for Canada. She has 186 caps, with 144 starts, for her home country. She has been a part of three World Cups and helped Canada to Bronze Medals in 2012 and 2016, plus the Gold Medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

An original member of the NWSL and the Kansas City Current, Scott has played over 10,000 minutes and 124 games and was a critical member of the Current’s run to the Championship in 2022. She has not made an appearance in 2023 yet, as she has been recovering from an offseason injury, but she hopes to be fully ready to represent Canada and play in her fourth World Cup this summer.

The camp will provide Canada with an opportunity to acclimate to the different time zone and weather conditions of Australia, while also spending valuable time as a group before the start of the competition.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, which will be held from July 20 to August 20, will be a tournament of firsts. Fans will see 32 nations playing 64 matches across nine host cities in Australia and New Zealand for the first time in FIFA Women’s World Cup history.

Priestman expects to name her final 23-player roster on July 9. Canada plays in Group B with matches on July 20 against Nigeria, Ireland July 26 and July 31 against Australia.
