Kansas City Current goalkeeper AD Franch earns Week 19 Deloitte Impact Save of the Week

Kansas City Current goalkeeper AD Franch has earned the Deloitte Impact Save of the Week for her incredible stop in the 53rd minute of Saturday’s match against the San Diego Wave. Voted on by fans, this is Franch’s third Save of the Week award this season and her sixth as a member of the Kansas City Current.

The nine-year veteran had five saves on the night, but none more spectacular or crucial as the one earning her this honor. The Current’s 2-0 lead was cut in half just two minutes before and the San Diego Wave were starting to gain momentum with consistent pressure on Kansas City’s back line. Wave forward Makenzy Doniak received a pass near the top of the penalty box and after cutting to her right she placed a shot just inside the far left post. Going against the grain, Franch was able to dive and stretch out just enough to make the stop and prevent any dangerous rebound.

Franch and her teammates are off this week but will look to keep playoff hopes alive when the team travels to the District of Columbia to face the Washington Spirit September 30 at Audi Field. The team returns home for an international friendly against CF Monterrey Femenil October 4 and the final regular season home game against the Chicago Red Stars October 7.
