Kansas City Current forward Kristen Hamilton voted Week Sixteen NWSL Player of the Week

Kansas City Current forward Kristen Hamilton was named the Week Sixteen NWSL Bud Light Player of the Week, as voted on by fans. Hamilton earns the honor after scoring the first hat trick in UKG NWSL Challenge Cup and club history and leading the Current to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dash Saturday. This is her first Player of the Week award since joining the Current in 2021 and the second one for Kansas City in 2023, with Debinha earning the honor in Week Five.

To keep up Kansas City’s UKG Challenge Cup success this season, Hamilton’s performance garnered a standing ovation from fans at home. At the beginning of first half stoppage time, Hamilton was left unattended at the top of the box to take advantage of a beautiful cross from the right side by forward Michelle Cooper.

Minutes later, she and midfielder Jenna Winebrenner took off on a breakaway. Winebrenner drew the defense to her and dished off to Hamilton on the right side. The veteran forward drove in one vs one against Houston’s goalkeeper then sent a golden shot curved over her and into the back of the net. In the second half, Hamilton completed her hat trick with a flourish, launching the ball past three defenders and into the net.

Earning three more career goals in Challenge Cup matches, Hamilton is now second in all-time Challenge Cup scoring with 10. She and the team will look to move up to first place in the Central Division as they travel to Bridgeview, Illinois to face the Red Stars Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. Dave Borchardt and Jillian Carroll Letrinko will have all the action on KC Current Radio for fans in the Kansas City area, while Jamie Watson and Gary Bailey call the action nationally on Paramount+.
