Kansas City Current announces Waldo Thai as next restaurant partner in CPKC Stadium

Voted Kansas City’s Best Thai Restaurant, Waldo Thai is the next restaurant partner announced by the Kansas City Current as part of the CPKC Stadium culinary experience. Waldo Thai has also been recognized as the Most Essential Restaurant by Eater.com, highlighting its significance and popularity in the Kansas City dining scene.

Fans are invited to attend a tasting and Teal Tuesday Takeover today from 12-1 pm at Waldo Thai located at 8431 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO.

“Diversity through flavor is yet another layer to the KC food culture fans will enjoy at the new CPKC stadium featuring Waldo Thai,” said Megan and Colby Garrelts, chef-partners for CPKC Stadium and owners of Rye. “We are thrilled to soon be enjoying menu offerings by Pam Liberda and her team from their celebrated location!”

A minority and woman-owned restaurant situated in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood; Waldo Thai started in 2018 under the leadership of Executive Chef Pam Liberda. She has been awarded Best Chef by Feast Magazine and The Pitch KC. Most recently, also a semi-finalist for the 2023 James Beard Award, the restaurant boasts a culinary experience that is the result of traditions passed down through generations, flavors common to the eateries in temperate Northern Thailand, and the preparation and cooking skills honed through education and practice.

“Waldo Thai is a perfect addition to enhance the culinary experience at CPKC Stadium,” said Vice President of Marketing Jocelyn Monroe. “Waldo Thai is a beacon of cultural expression and excellence, showcasing the rich flavors and traditions of Thai cuisine.”

Authentic and accessible are two words Pam uses to define her cuisine. Waldo Thai supports and features local farmer and immigrant-owned businesses in the Kansas City Metro Area. Many of their offerings utilize ingredients common in Asia and they love introducing and sharing those flavors with their guests.

“I am thrilled to join the KC Current family and the groundbreaking CPKC Stadium initiative,” said Liberda. “As an Asian woman Chef, I have dedicated myself to celebrating and sharing my cultural heritage through cuisine, and this collaboration symbolizes progress and inclusion. The KC Current’s commitment to empowering women deeply resonates with me, and I am excited to contribute to a venture that not only supports women in sports but also sets a powerful example for future generations.”

Mother to two daughters, Pam says being a part of CPKC stadium and the Kansas City Current is about more than the culinary experience for her. It’s about advocating for women’s rights and setting an inspiring example.

“This partnership aligns with my desire to show young women, especially my daughters, that they can achieve greatness in whatever field they choose, be it sports, culinary arts, or any other traditionally male-dominated industry,” said Liberda.

Waldo Thai’s location at the Northeast corner within CPKC Stadium will shine a spotlight on rice and noodle dishes, offering a variety of gluten-free and vegan options.

Teal Tuesdays have celebrated the announcements of Joe’s Kansas City, Billie’s Grocery, Yoli Tortilleria, Local Pig and now Waldo Thai coming to CPKC Stadium. The club will have more announcements regarding the bespoke culinary experience at the stadium in the coming weeks on Teal Tuesdays.  Fans are encouraged to celebrate all things KC Current with the team – and to wear teal – as the story of CPKC Stadium continues to come to life.

CPKC Stadium is the first soccer stadium purpose-built for a professional women’s soccer team. In all aspects of the fan experience, CPKC Stadium will have a focus on inclusivity and sustainability, providing an entertaining and modern atmosphere for fans that develops a passion and loyalty for KC Current and the stadium.
