The Kansas City Current is proud to partner with Megan and Colby Garrelts, Chef-Owners of Rye, located in Leawood, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo., as Chef Partners for the team’s new downtown stadium. The chefs will consult on food and beverage throughout the stadium to create the classic dishes that Kansas Citians know and love.
“We are beyond thrilled to work with Megan and Colby,” said KC Current co-owner Angie Long. “The food story is such an important part of our stadium and in addition to the incredible soccer matches and events, we want the food and beverage experience to be a reason people come to our stadium. Megan and Colby represent everything we want in a partner: commitment to excellence, forward thinking and rooted in the Midwest.”
“When fans come to see KC Current play, food and beverage are going to be a huge part of their entire experience,” said chef partner Megan Garrelts. “Not just sitting and watching the game, but getting up and experiencing local cuisine, new and exciting food and beverage options and getting an awesome feel and flavor of Kansas City right on the river.”
The Garrelts are award-winning chefs, cookbook authors and restauranteurs. Chef Colby is a 2013 James Beard Foundation Best Chef Midwest award winner, 2005 Food & Wine Top 10 Best New Chef and has had his cuisine showcased in the Wall Street Journal and on the August 2013 cover of Saveur Magazine. Chef Megan is a James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef and her recipes have been featured in numerous national publications including Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Wall Street Journal and Saveur.
“Kansas City is the place where the Midwest meets the south and west, and Rye is pretty much the perfect manifestation of our foodways. Megan and Colby Garrelts have won a pile of Beard nods and written two cookbooks based on their upscale take on regional cuisine. Rye is the rare place that can manage both elegant pork rinds and cold-smoked salmon.” – KC Mag
“Megan and Colby Garrelts are two of my favorite chefs and people. They epitomize delicious, personal food that feeds the spirit as much as the appetite. When you walk into their restaurants, you can't help but feel the warmth of their hospitality and welcome, even before you eat some of the best food in Kansas City.” Chandra Ram, Associate Editorial Editor at Food & Wine Magazine
