KANSAS CITY (April 5, 2021) – Kansas City NWSL gets set to kick off its inaugural season this week when it faces off against Portland Thorns FC in the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup, presented by Secret deodorant. Ahead of the Friday, April 9 opening match, the team released its full 28-player roster.
Forward Amy Rodriguez will wear the captain’s armband as she and six other players make their return to Kansas City after playing the last three seasons in Utah. Nicole Barnhart, Katie Bowen, Sydney Miramontez, Lo’eau LaBonta, Desiree Scott and Brittany Ratcliffe join Rodriguez in their return to KC.
Kansas City’s roster is filled with players that have represented their country at the senior level. Midfielders Scott (CAN), Jordyn Listro (CAN) and forward Mariana Larroquette (ARG) were recently called to duty and will miss the opening match of the tournament.
Forward Arielle Ship suffered an injury early in preseason and has been placed on the Disabled List. Forward Mallory Weber is currently on loan to Adelaide United of the Australian W-League.
