The Kansas City Current is committed to building an inclusive and accessible stadium, ensuring that all fans share in a smooth and enjoyable experience. Today the Current unveiled accessibility options and dedicated a special Olivia Bloomfield Legacy Seating Area with a pink seat to honor and remember the contributions of Olivia Bloomfield, a passionate young fan, who was a champion of inclusion and an advocate for children with disabilities.
“The Olivia Bloomfield Foundation is honored to be a part of the Kansas City Current’s CPKC Stadium and to be able to recognize those in the greater community that are championing inclusivity with the Olivia Bloomfield Legacy Seating section,” said Sara and Matt Bloomfield, trustees of the Foundation. “At each home match, this section will honor individuals and organizations in the community that are going above and beyond in making Kansas City the most inclusive city in the world. The Kansas City Current have been at the forefront of inclusivity in the community since the founding of the club, and we are excited to continue our daughter Olivia’s legacy, passion, and advocacy for inclusion with this seating section at CPKC Stadium.”
“Olivia was a fearless, dedicated, and inspirational advocate for accessibility and inclusion in our community,” said Current Co-owners Angie and Chris Long. “She lives on forever in our hearts and her legacy is too powerful not to incorporate in CPKC Stadium. Olivia helped reveal the Current’s inaugural season Challenge Cup jerseys and was a huge inspiration to our club, our accessibility initiatives, and the development of CPKC Stadium.”
Born with congenital muscular dystrophy, Olivia believed that all children should have the same opportunities and championed the construction of inclusive playgrounds across Kansas City and beyond. Ideated after her passing in 2022, the Olivia Bloomfield Legacy Seating honors the unsung heroes whose service provides a unique and valuable contribution toward making our communities and the world more accessible and inclusive for all. Through her work with Variety Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City, Olivia advocated with a sweet smile and steely belief in making the world more accessible and inclusive. The seats are located near center pitch on the east sideline and the home opener honoree will be Kaden Griffith. At just 10 years old, Kaden started a food pantry and clothing closet at his school for classmates in need. He also speaks at local grade schools about inclusion and disabilities. Kaden is an advocate for inclusive playgrounds and was a part of opening the one at Kansas City International Airport. He was selected by Variety KC for the first Variety Tales Book about an inclusive soccer pitch.
In addition to the Olivia Bloomfield Legacy Seating Area, wheelchair and companion seating will be available throughout CPKC Stadium. The main concourse level is completely accessible, 360 degrees, by guests using wheelchairs. Lowered countertops across the stadium will be accessible from a wheelchair at all concession areas. All concessions and restrooms are designed to be accessible. Accessible on-site parking is available in all parking areas for guests with a registered state issued license plate or hang tag.
CPKC Stadium will provide guest services personnel on match days to assist guests with limited mobility and require assistance to be transported to their seat from the gates and shuttle drop off location via a wheelchair escort. Guest services is available to those fans with disabilities needing assistance to get from stadium gates to the on-site parking lots and designated pick-up/drop-off and ride share locations.
The stadium will also have two restrooms and adult changing tables, provided by the Olivia Bloomfield Foundation, located in the Northwest and Premium areas of the stadium. There are two sensory rooms located in the Northwest and Southeast corners of the stadium, which were designed in coordination with Variety KC. Sensory kits are available to help guests self-regulate to reduce the impact of sensory stimuli. Kits can be checked out at Guest Services in the Southwest corner of CPKC Stadium to provide fans with individualized assistance.
Some of the additional accessibility features offered at CPKC Stadium are:
The stadium will have two restrooms for all, gender neutral bathrooms, located in the Northwest and Premium areas. A pair of nursing rooms, equipped with a sink and refrigerators, are available in the Northwest and Southeast corners to provide an area for breastfeeding and pumping.
When it comes to the world-class culinary experience, inclusivity is at the forefront. All of the restaurants in CPKC Stadium are peanut-free. A majority of food options are gluten-free around the stadium and the placement of food vendors within the concourse are grouped together to avoid cross-contact of food allergens.
